RiveraBch | February 28, 2022 – Berkeley Landing Housing Groundbreaking

The three-story community will feature a mix of one, two and three bedroom units and will be a showcase in the city’s “Reimagine Riviera Beach” effort

RIVIERA BEACH, FL (February 2022) – Pinnacle, Miami-based multi-family developers with a diverse and trend-setting portfolio of residential rental communities, along with Wendover Housing Partners, one of the Southeast’s premier multi-family housing developers, announce a celebration for the upcoming commencement (or “soft” groundbreaking) of Berkeley Landing in Riviera Beach on March 1st. Berkeley Landing will be a destination community for families and emerging members of the workforce along the revitalized Broadway corridor. Berkeley Landing is expected to be completed in late 2023.

Berkeley Landing will be built by PCDS Construction, an experienced joint venture between D. Stephenson Construction, South Florida’s largest minority-owned construction firm and PC Building, LLC, Pinnacle’s construction affiliate. The modern three-story community will feature a mix of 110 one, two and three bedroom affordable units and two additional market-rate units attached to ground floor live/work spaces facing Broadway. Each unit will have numerous features and amenities consistent with the high-quality standard for Pinnacle and Wendover developments, which is to make affordable housing indistinguishable from market-rate development with builder-grade, durable and energy efficient features throughout. Apartment homes will include worry-free impact-resistant windows and doors; Energy Star rated appliances; builder grade PVC blinds or solar shades for each window and USB ports/plugs on kitchen countertops and in primary bedrooms. Amenities include a clubhouse, pool and cabanas, fitness center, cyber lounge, covered pavilion, playground, and enclosed dog walk area. Further, sculpture art will be installed in two civic plazas dedicated to the city along Broadway and Lake Shore Drive, as part of the collective effort among the city, Wendover and Pinnacle to promote the Art in Public Places program and to beautify residential communities. Berkeley Landing is also coordinating its efforts to lease the two live/work spaces through participation in the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency’s small business incubator program.

“In addition to providing much needed quality affordable housing, our hope is that Berkeley Landing will set the standard for quality development on the Broadway corridor and act as a catalyst for further investment and growth in Riviera Beach,” said Timothy P. Wheat, regional vice president, Pinnacle.

“Berkeley Landing will aid in creating a more diverse downtown area and enhance the working waterfront as well as the Broadway corridor,” said Kevin Kroll, director of institutional funding, Wendover Housing Partners. “We have recognized the need for affordable housing throughout the state of Florida, and we hope to attract new residents to the city while elevating the quality of life for existing residents.”

“This development project and partnership is a testament to the commitment and leadership from all parties to ensure that high quality housing at an affordable rate is available to our residents,” noted Jonathan Evans, Riviera Beach’s city manager.  “This development will also activate the Broadway corridor by creating ‘live/work lofts’, which will assist entrepreneurs in truly living, working, and playing in our city. This development is one-of-a-kind, and should serve as the development standard for all workforce/affordable communities.”

The community will be a showcase in the city’s “Reimagine Riviera Beach” effort as high-quality affordable housing is developed in proximity to transportation, world-class recreation, health care, employment, education and more within the city called “Palm Beach County’s best kept secret”. Berkeley Landing represents the largest private investment to date committed within the Riviera Beach’s CRA. The development’s financing was spearheaded through an allocation of Housing Tax Credits by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation leveraged through a contribution from the Riviera Beach CRA, impact fee relief from Palm Beach County, investment equity raised from syndicating the tax credits by the National Equity Fund, along with construction financing from Bank of America. Berkeley Landing was designed by RLC Architects of Boca Raton, with urban planning provided by Urban Design Studios, civil engineering by KEITH and land use counsel provided by the Gunster law firm. Wendover Management will be the property manager.

This event will take place on Tuesday, March 1 at 11 a.m. The City’s Mayor and City Council, members of the Board of County Commissioners along with City, CRA and County staff will be in attendance along with executives from Pinnacle and Wendover. Berkeley Landing is located at 3100 Broadway Avenue (U.S. Highway #1), just west of the Intracoastal Waterway and north of Blue Heron Boulevard in Riviera Beach, Florida.
