TYLER, TX (KLTV) – Wednesday, ground was broken on the newest affordable housing facilities in north Tyler. The Saige Meadows project will include one, two and three bedroom apartments and townhouses totaling 92 units.

It is the second affordable housing opportunity to come to Tyler in the past two years, and it’s the first of it’s kind on Highway 69 north, near Interstate 20.

“This is the area where we’ve always needed new, affordable, good homes for people to live in, and it also means the re-building of North Tyler,” said city councilman Edward Moore. “I’m so proud that the city and Saige Meadows is doing that. Without the city’s help this project would not be here. The city made a great investment three years ago when they added water and sewage lines for Highway 69 and loop 323 all the way to interstate 20.”

Saige Meadows is currently looking to hire subcontractors and laborers to help with this project.

“We’re really excited about being one of the first to build in this part of town. We’re also excited to help grow and develop the city of Tyler, and to help provide jobs and housing,” said development associate Lindsey Wolfson.

Officials say they are hopeful to start moving in their first family by the end of this year but they have until February 2015 to finish building.

“I’ve helped build about 2,000 affordable housing units but this is my first one to build in Tyler,” said Pinroc construction manager Beau Busby. “Hard working people can come here and actually find housing that they can afford.”

Constructors say there will be 92 units and anywhere between 150 to 200 bedrooms once the project is complete.
