POMPANO BEACH, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–April 22, 2008–County, City and community leaders were on hand for the groundbreaking of Golden Acres in Pompano Beach today, marking a significant redevelopment of land owned by the Housing Authority of Pompano Beach (HAPB). The new Golden Acres community will allow the HAPB to serve more residents, in keeping with its mission.
Construction has begun on two simultaneously-built phases, called Golden Square (182 units) and Golden Villas (120 units). One, two, three and four bedroom apartments will have amenities typical of upscale housing, including Energy-Star appliances; ceramic tile throughout; marble vanities; clubhouses with meeting space, fitness and business center; swimming pool; and waterfront views.
Broward County Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion, Pompano Beach Commissioner George Brummer and Housing Authority of Pompano Beach Chairman Woodrow Poitier joined representatives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Citibank Community Capital and Pinnacle Housing Group in celebrating the occasion. Commissioner Eggelletion thanked the agencies for the amount of minority participation in the project. “You’re going to love the way it looks,” he told the more than 100 attendees.
Pompano Beach Commissioner E. Pat Larkins was credited for the time, effort and patience he has devoted to the effort. Commissioner Brummer stated, “What Commissioner Larkins calls ‘his neighborhood’ will be beautiful, well-kept and achieve the purpose of providing high quality, affordable housing.”
The partner agencies collaborated to create a unique design in Golden Acres. Owned by the Housing Authority of Pompano Beach for more than 50 years, the new development will become a campus of affordable housing. Housing Authority Board Tenant Commissioner Willie Ruth Heath said, “This is a proud day for all of us. The new community will make us feel like a family again.”
