TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — Tallahassee’s affordable housing inventory is growing.

Pinnacle Housing Group cut the ribbon for its Frenchtown Project, Casanas Village, on Thursday. The development is located on Macomb and Georgia streets and is in partnership with the local nonprofit Big Bend Community Development Corporation.

“We think that this project will anchor the north corner of Macomb Street. If you take a look down Macomb Street there’s a development being worked on on the south end. We did the development in the middle of the project, the Renaissance Center,” said Tom Lewis, CFO with Big Bend Community Development Corporation.

The development includes 88 units, all of which are already rented out. They include 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments.

Prices vary, with some units based on income level. The lowest unit would rent at nearly $400 a month.

The developers have also worked to incorporate the history of Frenchtown into the project.

Casanas Village was named after Aurelio Casanas, who was a community leader in Frenchtown in the late 1800’s. His family’s home was preserved and turned into the leasing office for the complex. Inside, the decor plays off the neighborhood’s roots in jazz music.

The Tallahassee city commission has made affordable housing a priority for the coming year.
